The Modern Black Steps Aluminum Mezuzah is a compact mezuzah case that is made in Israel with a deep black finish, repeated architectural ledges, and a contrasting silver-tone Shin (ש, Hebrew letter) at the center. The sculpted modern mezuzah cover turns a narrow four-inch profile into something dimensional, using shadow and rhythm.

Its black stepped body pairs naturally with dark hardware, white trim, stone, concrete, and warm wood. View more black mezuzah cases for similarly bold doorway palettes.

Architectural Black Steps with a Silver Shin

Closely spaced aluminum fins project beyond the center body from top to bottom, creating alternating highlights and recessed shadow lines. The geometry gives this small mezuzah depth while keeping the silhouette disciplined and clean, a natural fit among our modern mezuzah cases.

The smooth center interrupts the stepped pattern to frame the silver Shin. Shin begins Shaddai (שַׁדַּי, Divine Name), traditionally associated with the mezuzah, while the black-and-silver treatment keeps the symbol crisp and understated. Its architectural character also suits shoppers browsing contemporary mezuzahs.

For the same layered form in a warmer metallic finish, see the Modern Golden Steps Aluminum Mezuzah.

Modern Black Steps Kosher Scroll Options

This case fits a kosher mezuzah scroll up to 2.8 inches (7 cm). The four-inch exterior includes the closure area, so the mezuzah klaf (קְלָף, parchment) should never be folded, trimmed, crushed, pinched, pierced, compressed, or forced. Browse our kosher mezuzah scrolls by size and script.

When a scroll is purchased with the case, we can carefully roll, wrap, and insert it through the bottom opening before shipping. Our guide to what is inside a mezuzah explains the handwritten parchment and the work of the sofer STaM.

Families following minhag Ashkenaz can compare our Ashkenazi mezuzah options and Sephardic families can take a look at our Sephardi mezuzahs.

Waterproof Black Aluminum for Indoor and Outdoor Doorways

The aluminum body is waterproof and designed for interior or exterior use when the bottom closure is secured correctly and the case remains undamaged. Browse more waterproof mezuzahs for weather-ready outdoor doorways.

The included extra-strong adhesive keeps the narrow profile free of visible hardware. If the case is moved, use fresh mezuzah mounting tape for secure installation.

Made in Israel, the Black Steps Mezuzah combines a timeless black palette with sculptural modern geometry, joining our mezuzahs made in Israel as compact contemporary Judaica for the Jewish home.
